“Fortunately, I went back to Philadelphia when I had my injury in Gouna; it was really unfortunate having to pull out with an injury. But I’m really happy that I did though, because if I had continued playing, then who knows what could have happened.
“I had a blast being out here on the glass today. I think drawing Joelle in the first round is literally one of the toughest draws I could have gotten.
“We’ve had several battles in the past, but she’s obviously coming back from a serious injury and it’s amazing to have her back on tour. I have so much respect for her, her entire career – I grew up watching her play. Not only is she an amazing player, she is an amazing person off the court. I loved being out on court with her tonight, and thanks to everyone for coming down to watch.
“I’m excited for the next round.”
