The 2023-24 CIB PSA World Championships get underway today, with 32 matches taking place on a busy first day in Cairo, Egypt.
Play starts at 12:00 (GMT+3) across the four traditional courts at the Palm Hills Club, with the glass court introduced at 19:00 for four evening matches. Live scores will be available to view here.
Among the star attractions on the opening day will be defending champions and World No.1’s Nour El Sherbini and Ali Farag, who will take on Jessica Turnbull and Todd Harrity, respectively. El Sherbini will begin her quest for a record-equalling eighth title, while Farag will be looking to become World Champion for the fifth time. World No.4’s Diego Elias and Nele Gilis will also open their accounts on the glass court.
Elsewhere in the first round, there are a number of well-poised first-round ties in the women’s draw, with England teammates Sarah-Jane Perry and Jasmine Hutton coming up against one another, and top 20 ranked players Fayrouz Aboelkheir facing Nada Abbas, and Hollie Naughton taking on Salma Hany.
Former World Champions Tarek Momen and Karim Abdel Gawad will also get their campaigns underway in the men’s draw, with No.8 seed Momen facing George Parker, and No.5 seed Gawad squaring off against Timothy Brownell.
In total, there will be players from 18 different countries taking to the court at the Palm Hills Club.
