[3] Diego Elias (PER) 3-0 [5] Karim Abdel Gawad (EGY) 11-5, 11-1, 11-6 (34m)
Next opponent: Ali Farag
This scoreline, we didn’t expect at all. Karim has been playing so well recently, but tonight, he didn’t seem himself and I hope it has nothing to do with his recurrent foot injury. Yes, Diego was on fire tonight but Karim never got into the match really, 4/0 11/5 in the first game 11m, then 11/1 in the second, 9m game.
As for the last game, Diego up 5/1, 6/3, a little drop of energy at that point for the Peruvian, Karim taking full advantage, but despite the support of the crowd, who still believed, at 6/7, that the Baby Face Assassin could get one of his 5 setter victories, Karim just didn’t have enough in the racquet today, 11/6 to Diego, in 10m.

“I felt great but I didn’t expect this. I played great squash like I have been all week and I’m happy to win in three.”
