Iker : Today I was very nervous but I was very focused from the start, and it was very clear in my head.
This tournament hits me very very hard. I think I played this tournament 9 times, and I lost first round 6 times, through injuries, bad draws, hence me being very nervous. My draw changed a few days ago, I was playing Nathan Lake, and so today, I had all the pressure, I felt I HAD to win, that mental thing in my head. Today, I played too much to the back, I wasn’t confident with my shots at the front.
My girlfriend came this time to support me, I really wanted to win. Mentally, very tough for me this tournament. So I’m so happy to make it. Tomorrow I have a day off, and I’m then playing the winner of Diego and Tamimi.
Although today was probably not my best day, I feel confident with my squash at the moment. I knew I had to push hard today, and I got a bit lucky at the end, from 7/7, he made a few mistakes and I got to 11/7 quickly.
