World No.5 Makin Withdraws

World No.5 Joel Makin has withdrawn from the upcoming 2024-25 PSA World Championships presented by the Walter Family due to injury.

Makin, a two-time winner on the PSA Squash Tour this season, was set to arrive at the PSA World Championships in some of the best form of his life, having come close to defeating Ali Farag in both the semi-finals of the El Gouna International and the Grasshopper Cup.

However, the British No.1 has had to withdraw from the PSA Squash Tour’s flagship event following an ankle injury sustained whilst competing for Wales at the European Team Championships last week.

Egypt’s World No.6 Tarek Momen has now moved up to No.5 seed position, with fellow Egyptian Karim Abdel Gawad and England’s Mohamed ElShorbagy moving up to occupy the No.6 and No.7 seeding positions, respectively.

England’s World No.7 Marwan ElShorbagy is now a top-eight seed following Makin’s withdrawal and finds himself in the same quarter of the draw as Peru’s defending World Champion, Diego Elias.

Pakistan’s Muhammad Asim Khan has entered the draw to replace Makin and plays France’s Auguste Dussourd.
