R1: Ridiculous pace between Timmy and Ryunosuke

[26] Timothy Brownell (USA) 3-0 Ryunosuke Tsukue (JPN)  11-6, 11-5, 11-7 (33m)

Very entertaining match, which started with the two silly boys warming up playing “tennis two-handers”, I kid you not. The tone was set..

Timmy

He is so underrated. He has one of the best racquets on the circuit. And he is so free and skilled, without any fear.

Going in, I knew I had to take a backseat to him and let him initiate. Which I don’t like to be honest. Even so, it made some exciting and nice, because he is opening, and pressurising and reading, and it’s honestly hard to read in front of the court, when you feel they are everywhere, you are going to hit it.

Honestly, I had to take my foot off the gas a little bit, and tried to soften the ball at other times, whereas I would have liked to attack, that’s how the match went…

It was a bit kind of ‘on his racquet’ today. And his shots just didn’t go in. But I think I did well to get some of them back, and get just one more ball back. He was the initiator today, and I was just kind of hanging in….

I’m playing the winner of Rooney and Gawad. So I’d rather have Rooney! He is a really fair player, so underrated. He had a really tough time with injuries last year, so people have forgotten how good he is. So this has got to be written up somewhere, how Rooney is an all-time good player, the guy can hit nicks, he’s got skills, he is a great mover, and I think he’d like to test Gawad, so I think that will be a good match, and I’ll play the winner.
