[15] Jasmine Hutton (Eng) 3-1 Torrie Malik (Eng) 13-15, 11-7, 11-7, 11-8 (48m)
Jasmine : “I’d say that was a rollercoaster. I was very edgy to start with and she was playing really well, hitting her targets and hitting some unbelievable shots like she does. So, credit to her.
“But then, obviously, she hurt herself and that was another bit of emotion. So, you don’t know how she’s going to be, or if she’s going to be moving. It was a hard one mentally for me today, but I’m happy to have pushed through and dug deep.
“I think she was mentally a bit struggling after the injury
. It seemed like she was disappointed that happened, as everyone would be if that happened to them. I hope she’s okay, but I do think that changed the momentum of the match a lot.
“I’m looking forward to the next round, I’ve played both of them only once. I don’t have too much knowledge on either of them, so I’m going to be doing my homework with Wael tomorrow during my rest day. But it’s not a bad thing that I might be potentially playing Farida because I think Torrie and Farida play really similarly. It’s almost going to be like the same match to prepare for.
“It definitely gives you confidence that all these English girls are on your tail. It feels like they’re on mine and Gina’s tails at the minute. It was a hard one, especially as we’ve just had the Europeans together and we were literally rooming together last week. To go from rooming to then playing each other isn’t an easy thing to do. I think it does give me confidence, but I know they’re going to keep chasing. I’ve just got to keep being prepared.”
