As I was taking a bit of fresh air before the 12o’clock rush, I saw Derek Ryan taping Lucy’s right shoulder. I’m not sure if that played a role in the result. I thought Lucy was pretty negative at times, which doesn’t look like I remember her play. Marta on the other hand, was bursting with belief and energy…
Marta : “She’s a very talented player. Last year we played against each other, it was 3-0 to her. I knew that it was going to be a tough match,
“I was up 2-0. I felt so confident, I was really good, but you know, when you are up and you have to finish that match – it’s not easy to do it and I’m very happy that I could finish the match and get the win.
“She came to play a little bit better in the third, she made less mistakes than in the other two games. I lost my length and in the middle court and she was better, she’s very talented.
“So I’m very happy to get this fourth game, otherwise in the fifth anything can happen. A
“The European Teams is a very tough tournament because you play many matches in just three or four days, but I think my results give me confidence because they were very good performances for me. So yeah, I think it was good that week for me and today was the result.
“I’m very happy. I feel very good. I think this final part of the season is going to be good for me. Let’s see how it’s going tomorrow and in Brazil. I’m going to Brazil for a couple of tournaments and let’s see, but I’m very happy with my performance.”
