Japan’s Ryunosuke Tsukue and Malaysia’s Yiwen Chan have claimed places in the PSA World Championships after winning the Asia qualifying event in confident style in Kuala Lumpur.
In the all-Malaysia women’s final, Chan dominated from start to finish in the contest, not giving Kumar any chances to get in front and showcase her skills. Chan took the opening game 11-6 and found top form from there, restricting Kumar to just six points in the following two games. A 3-0 win for the higher seeded Malaysian and a spot in the biggest tournament on the PSA calendar next month in Cairo.
The men’s final between Tsukue and home favourite Adden Idrakie would be the fourth meeting of the two on the PSA tour. Tsukue had won all three contests dropping only one game in the process. The Japanese No.1 would have been full of confidence and showed that on court. He took two tight games 11-9, 11-8 to establish a 2-0 lead and then clinically finished Idrakie off in the third game, winning 11-3 to earn his spot at the World Champs.
