The CIB Palm Hills PSA World Championships 25/26 continued today in Giza, Egypt with 32 bottom half first round matches across five courts at the Palm Hills Club.
There was one major upset as Nathan Lake got the better of ninth seed Marwan ElShorbagy in al all-English matchup. Lake playeb superbly, and at 2-1 and 9-7 earned match ball as he was awarded a stroke. Marwan took it badly, launching a prolonged verbal assault on the referee which earned him a conduct stroke and Lake the match.
Elsewhere, as yesterday, there were some minor seeding upsets as Marta Dominguez ousted 32nd seed Lucy Beecroft, Muhd Ashab Irfan beat 28th seed Nicolas Mueller, Nardine Garas beat 25th seed Zeina Mickawy, Nadien El Hammamy got the better of 22nd seed Rachel Arnold, and Menna Hamed won a five-game all-Egyptian duel with 31st seed Mariam Metwally.
Also out is 10th seed Mohamed ElShorbagy, who won his match but subsequently withdrew injued, allowing Declan James a bye into the last sixteen.
The round concluded with four quick wins on the glass for Nour ElSherbini, Olivia Weaver, Paul Coll and Karim Abdel Gawad.
Round Two takes place tomorrow with 28 matches as Palm Hills and four on the Glass Court.
